
Pachmarhi,, Madhya Pradesh., India (24 Sept - 30 Sept 2025)

Pachmarhi, the "Queen of the Satpura Ranges" is nestled at 3500 ft in Central India. We visited it in the last week of September 2025, near monsoon end. A lush green world awaited us as far as the eye could see. Dense forests on steep mountains alternated with gently undulating grassy slopes and serene lakes. Heavy rain and dense clouds covering the mountains alternated with spells of bright sunlight in the cold crisp mountain air. The Satpura Queen was on display in all her splendour!
We were surrounded by bird tweets everywhere we walked. Sighting them however in the dense green cover was proved much more difficult - but this is one of the challenges that makes birding so fascinating. Click each of the heads or scroll down to enjoy see the "Catch" (of bird pictures):

Serene Lake, spanned by a road over it and bordered by pedestroan walkways along the banks, thick brush and a row of trees. A park crowns one corner and a Mansion with extensinve green lawns diagonally opposite. A grassy field outside the paths bordering part of the lake yielded most of the birds.

Champak Lake

A serene Lake accessed by slushy (after the recent rains) paths and tall trees on one shore. Other shores are separated by wire fence enclosed areas - with a campsite and other structures. Also known as the Boat Club Lake frequented by tourists. ​​​​​
